Trips for Kids Charlotte is a chapter of Trips for Kids, a national 501c3 nonprofit youth development and education umbrella organization. Trips for Kids’ mission is to give every kid in every community the opportunity to know the joy of riding a bike and the freedom to explore the natural world on two wheels.
Since 1988 Trips for Kids has grown into a vast network of chapters located throughout North America. Trips for Kids has enriched the lives of more than 230,000 youth through Discovery Rides, Adventure Clubs, Mobile Bike Clinics, Earn-a-Bike Workshops and Youth@Work programs that help youth to be more active, experience natural places, gain environmental and STEM-based knowledge, build confidence and develop job readiness skills.
When the Charlotte chapter was founded in 1999 as it's own 501C3 nonprofit, it became Trip's for Kids second location and first on the east coast!

We partner with Title 1 schools, nonprofits and community organizations with similar goals for helping young people.
Many of our partners provide participants for our Ride and Earn-A-Bike (EAB) programs and are responsible for transporting the kids to and from our sites. Our programs often serve as a reward for kids who exhibit good behavior and achieve good grades.
We also run the Charlotte Re-Cyclery, where we refurbish donated “dusty not rusty” bicycles for use in EAB and to sell to the public. Proceeds from the Charlotte Re-Cyclery help support our programs.
“We want to instill confidence in the kids by showing them something good can happen in their life if they will work for it,” Executive Director Paula Fricke told SouthPark Magazine.
